Army Chief MM Naravane reviews security situation in J&K*

*Srinagar, Oct 19 (KINS):* Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane, on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir Union territory, reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness.

The visit of the Army Chief comes in the backdrop of the Poonch gunfight that has entered in the ninth day.

Sources told news agency KINS that the Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane on Monday arrived here on a two day visit to the region. “As the chief arrived in Jammu, he held meetings with the top brass and got information about the ongoing operations and the situation at the LoC, particularly about the Poonch gunfight,” they said.

 

The Chief of the Army also got information about the recent civilian killings in the valley.

Sources also said that the Army Chief also visited forward areas along the Line of Control to review operational preparedness.

Sources said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General MM Naravane asked the commanders in the Union territory to “maintain strict vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) and be prepared to give a befitting reply to any misadventure” from across the border.

 

Sources said that on the second day of his two-day visit, the COAS will continue to review the security situation along the line of control.

“The Chief of Army Staff was briefed by the local Commanders on the situation on the Line of Control, ceasefire violations, retaliations, counter infiltration operations and operational preparedness being maintained.

Sources said that during his interaction with the soldiers, he was appreciative of the sharp vigil and alertness along the Line of Control and high morale of the troops,” said the sources

Officials said that the “local Army Commanders briefed the COAS on the existing security situation and the measures instituted so that infiltration bids by militants are foiled”.

“He COAS also impressed upon the commanders to maintain strict vigil along the Line of Control and remain prepared to give a befitting reply to any misadventure from across and exhorted the soldiers to remain alert for any eventuality,” sources maintained.

It is to mention here that the Army on Monday in a statement had said that the, Gen Naravane will arrive in the Jammu region where the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps will give him an update on the security situation.(KINS)
