Srinagar, Dec 12: A pivotal legislative proposal was presented in the Lok Sabha, introducing the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023.
Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, introduced the bill, which aims to reserve one-third of the assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. The primary objective of this legislative initiative is to enhance the representation and active involvement of women as public representatives in the legislative procedures of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
In sync with the national context, where the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023 has been enacted to facilitate the reservation of one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and the Delhi assembly, the Jammu and Kashmir bill seeks to replicate these provisions.
The bill seeks to make similar provisions in Jammu and Kashmir by amending the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019.
