Political parties prepare for major public rallies, ahead of JK Assembly Elections

Ishtiyaq Kar

Srinagar, Aug 28 (KINS): As Jammu and Kashmir gets ready for the Assembly Elections, political parties are preparing for major rallies across the Union Territory.
The main parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and various other regional parties, are gearing up for big rallies to gain support of the voters.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to mobilize its top leadership to spearhead the campaign in the Union Territory.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are all scheduled to lead rallies for the BJP candidates, particularly in the Hindu-majority seats of the Jammu region.
The involvement of these top leaders is key to the BJP’s plan to strengthen its hold in Jammu and try to gain support in the Kashmir Valley, where the party has usually faced challenges.
Senior BJP leader, Ashok Koul, stated, “Our focus is on ensuring that the people of Jammu and Kashmir see the development work carried out by the BJP over the years. We are confident that the voters will appreciate our efforts and choose a stable, development-oriented government.”
As per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), on the other side, the Congress is gearing up for an intense battle, positioning itself as the party that can restore harmony and balance within the diverse communities of the region.
A Congress leader, wishing not to be named remarked, “The BJP has failed to deliver on its promises. Instead of uniting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, they have only deepened the divisions. Our goal is to bring the people together and work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for all.”
The regional parties, particularly the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), are also gearing up for a tough fight.
The NC, led by Omar Abdullah, has formed an alliance with the Congress, creating a formidable force, especially in the Kashmir Valley. The alliance is being viewed as a serious contender capable of challenging the BJP.
Omar Abdullah, in a recent rally, emphasized the importance of local governance, stating, “This election is not just about power; it’s about the future of Jammu and Kashmir. The people of this region have suffered enough. We need a government that understands the ground realities and works for the people.”
The PDP, led by Mehbooba Mufti, is focusing on its traditional strongholds while highlighting issues such as the protection of Article 370 and the restoration of statehood.
As the Assembly election gets closer, the arguments between parties are expected to heat up, with each one trying to win over voters.
The BJP and Congress are likely to have intense debates, each claiming to be the best choice for Jammu and Kashmir’s future while criticizing the other’s plans and achievements. (KINS)
