Srinagar, Sep 11 (KINS): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge returned to New Delhi late Wednesday following a visit to Jammu and Kashmir, just ahead of the first phase of Assembly Elections.
During his one day trip, Kharge delivered a significant public rally in Anantnag and conducted a press conference in Srinagar.
In Anantnag, Kharge delivered a powerful speech, asserting the Congress party’s commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
“We will ensure that J&K gets its statehood back,” Kharge said as per news agency KINS.
He also outlined plans to establish both an Upper and a Lower House and to fill one lakh government vacancies. “The BJP is trying to divide the people here in the name of religion, but they will never succeed. We are one and will always remain one,” he asserted.
Kharge was accompanied by key Congress leaders, including Bharat Sinh Solanki, who oversees party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir; state president Tariq Hameed Karra; and general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
During the press conference in Srinagar, Kharge heavily criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He accused the BJP of failing in its developmental efforts, saying, “Whatever building or developmental initiatives that were launched by the PM have collapsed or are leaking. The BJP has not done anything in the last 10 years; wherever a bridge was inaugurated, that bridge collapsed. The Ram Mandir was inaugurated, and now the roof is leaking. Wherever PM Modi inaugurates anything, this has happened.”
Kharge also addressed the issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s change from a state to a union territory. “The BJP has to answer whether they have pushed Jammu and Kashmir forward or pulled it backwards. I have never seen in my 60 years of political life that a state has been made into a union territory. The BJP’s claims of development are false promises,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the Congress leaders told KINS that, Priyanka Gandhi is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir next week, continuing the party’s engagement with the region ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.(KINS)
