Security tightened across Kashmir ahead of second phase of Assembly Elections

Srinagar, Sep 20 (KINS): With the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections set for September 25, authorities have significantly ramped up security across the Kashmir division to ensure a peaceful and smooth voting process.
As per news agency KINS, this phase will see 26 assembly segments, including 11 seats from three districts of the Jammu Division, heading to the polls, marking a crucial stage in the ongoing electoral process.
In response to the heightened stakes, authorities have implemented a robust security framework involving increased patrols, additional checkpoints, and a greater presence of paramilitary forces.
Both urban and rural areas of Kashmir have witnessed the deployment of these measures as part of a concerted effort to prevent any disruptions and maintain law and order.
According to a senior police official, “Our primary focus is to ensure that every voter feels safe during the election process. The extensive security grid in place, including additional companies of paramilitary forces, is designed to create a secure environment for voters.”
News agency KNS reported that these measures were implemented following the successful completion of the first phase of elections.
The Election Commission has directed local police and other security agencies to leave no stone unturned in safeguarding the democratic process.
Key security elements include fortifying polling booths, protecting strong rooms where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be stored, and securing the transportation and collection of EVMs after the polling.
Enhanced surveillance mechanisms have been deployed to ensure real-time monitoring of the election landscape.
A source close to the developments remarked, “Standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been established to deal with any emergencies, and we are monitoring individuals with known disruptive tendencies. Authorities are also vigilant against the potential misuse of social media”.
“We have strengthened police control rooms (PCRs) to ensure effective reporting and communication. Any attempt to disrupt the peace will be met with a swift and firm response,” the official added.
A senior security official commented, “We are leaving no room for subversive activities. Every polling booth, strong room, and public area is being carefully monitored to ensure safety and order.”
The second phase of the election is anticipated to be a high-stakes contest with prominent political figures vying for seats.(KINS)
