Preparations in full swing for Diwali in Kashmir

Arjumand Shah

Srinagar, Oct 29 (KINS): Ahead of Diwali, the festival of lights, people from the Hindu and Sikh communities are busy shopping and decorating their homes in preparation for celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir.

On this occasion, scores of devotees are expected to visit temples for special prayers. Various security establishments will also be decorating several structures.

Markets in Srinagar, especially Maharaja Bazar, have seen brisk sales of decorative items and firecrackers for Diwali. Sweet shops are experiencing a good rush, and similar scenes are reported from Jammu. “We witnessed a large crowd on Tuesday. People are preparing for Diwali, and children are buying new clothes and firecrackers for the festival,” a shopkeeper told news agency KINS.

In Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, shoppers were seen purchasing household items, clothing, jewelry, sweets, and a variety of firecrackers for Diwali. Special stalls selling crackers and fireworks were set up near Regal Chowk.

Many shopkeepers are offering discounts on their goods for Diwali. (KINS)
