Srinagar, Jan 14 (KINS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu & Kashmir has initiated two separate Preliminary Enquiries (PEs) into allegations of corruption and irregularities in the Srinagar Smart City Ltd. project.
ACB in a statement issued to news agency KINS said that the first Preliminary Enquiry (PE No. 01/2025), registered at the ACB Police Station in Srinagar, follows credible inputs regarding the misappropriation of materials such as Devari Stones, path tiles, and iron grills. These materials, intended for the city’s beautification and revamp under the Srinagar Smart City Ltd. initiative, were reportedly unaccounted for or allegedly sold in the open market for personal gain. Instead of being retained in the stores of the concerned Engineering Division, the materials were diverted, raising concerns about mismanagement and corruption.
The second Preliminary Enquiry (PE No. 02/2025) focuses on the alleged use of substandard materials in development works at Foreshore Road, Nishat. These works include the construction of a cycle track, footpaths facing Dal Lake, and viewing decks from Nishat to Naseem Bagh PHC. Officials and contractors associated with Srinagar Smart City Ltd. are accused of bypassing mandatory quality assurance procedures, resulting in compromised work standards.
It is alleged that there was connivance between certain
officials of Srinagar Smart City Ltd. and contractors to execute these substandard projects, undermining the intended purpose of the initiative.
Both Preliminary Enquiries are actively under investigation, and the ACB is committed to uncovering the truth behind these allegations and ensuring accountability.Further updates will follow as the probes progress.(KINS)
