Major snow-covered roads cleared, essential services restored in upper reaches of Kulgam: SDM Noorabad

Aijaz Itoo
Kulgam, Feb 01 (KINS): Following heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, which disrupted daily life, the administration has intensified its efforts to fully restore essential services in the affected areas.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Noorabad, Bashir Ul Hassan, said that higher-altitude regions, including the popular tourist destination Aharbal, received nearly one foot of snow. “Men and machinery have been deployed to clear all roads in the region at the earliest,” he stated.
“As of now, more than 95% of Priority-1 (P1) roads have been cleared, along with 70% of Priority-2 (P2) roads. The remaining snow will also be cleared soon,” he told news agency KINS.
Regarding water and electricity restoration, the SDM noted that sub-zero temperatures have posed challenges to the water supply system. “We are deploying water tankers wherever needed through the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, and we expect the issue to be resolved soon. Electricity is being supplied as per schedule, with only one or two damaged transformers that will be repaired within two days,” he assured.
The SDM emphasized that all efforts are being made to ensure the complete restoration of services in the sub-division.(KINS)
