Heavy rains lash J&K, CM puts departments on alert

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Aug 24 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert after heavy rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir, causing waterlogging in several residential areas and pushing rivers and nallahs above the danger mark.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) as per news agency KINS said that control rooms across the Union Territory have been activated and are in constant touch with concerned departments to monitor the evolving situation.

“Special focus is being laid on dewatering operations in waterlogged localities and on restoring essential services, including water supply and electricity, in affected areas.Priority is being given to drainage in inundated areas, while swift steps are being taken to ensure the restoration of power and water supply,” the CM’s office said.

The CM also appealed to people to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary movement near rivers and water bodies. Relief and rescue teams have been kept on standby to respond to any eventuality.

Authorities have urged residents to stay connected with official advisories and report emergencies promptly to the nearest control room.(KINS)
