Kupwara, Oct 14 (KINS): The Indian Army on Tuesday said that acting on specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC), security forces foiled a major bid in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, killing two terrorists in the Machhal sector.
The Indian Army as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said that the operation was jointly launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police following credible intelligence corroborated by multiple agencies.
“Alert troops deployed along the LoC in the Machhal sector detected suspicious movement near the forward areas and challenged the infiltrators. The terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, triggering a fierce gunfight. In the exchange of fire, two terrorists were neutralised. A large quantity of weapons and other war-like stores have been recovered from the encounter site,” Army said.
The operation was ongoing when the last reports came in, with security forces maintaining a tight cordon in the area to rule out the presence of any additional infiltrators.(KINS)
