Jammu, Nov 05 (KINS): BJP Vice President and former minister Priya Sethi has raised concerns over what she termed as “regional bias” in the allocation of the newly sanctioned Law University in Budgam, Kashmir.
Priya Sethi in a statement issued to news agency KINS pointed out that while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has publicly expressed concern for the welfare of the people of Jammu, the decision to establish the Law University exclusively in Budgam raises questions about equitable development across the Union Territory.
“Education is the foundation of progress, and higher education institutions like a Law University are vital for empowering our youth,” Sethi said. “It is important that development is balanced and inclusive. Jammu, like other regions, deserves to benefit from such significant educational initiatives.”
She further emphasized that regional imbalances in institutional development could have long-term social and economic consequences. Sethi urged policymakers to ensure that future projects take into account the needs of all regions, fostering unity and equitable growth in the Union Territory.
The former minister also appealed to the government to engage with local representatives from Jammu to explore opportunities for establishing similar institutions, ensuring that both Jammu and Kashmir have equal access to quality higher education.
“This is not about politics; it’s about fairness, opportunity, and ensuring that no region feels left behind,” she added.
The announcement has triggered widespread discussion across political and social circles, with many echoing the call for balanced regional development across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
