CM Omar Abdullah rules out power tariff hike, says no proposal received

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Nov 24 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday ruled out any increase in power tariff, dismissing reports of a proposed hike by the Power Development Department (PDD).

Abdullah, who also holds the portfolio of Power Minister, said he has not received any proposal seeking a revision of electricity charges in the Union Territory.

“There is no proposal before me to hike power tariff. I, being the Power Minister as well, have not received any such file,” the Chief Minister said, putting speculation over a possible increase to rest.

Earlier, media reports according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) had claimed that the power department had proposed a 20 percent hike in electricity tariff during peak consumption hours, triggering concern among consumers already burdened by rising costs of essential services.

The CM’s clarification is likely to bring relief to thousands of domestic and commercial consumers who feared an imminent rise in their monthly power bills. (KINS)
