Police activate emergency helplines; step up assistance across Kashmir amid heavy snowfall

Srinagar, Jan 23 (KINS): In view of the ongoing snowfall and adverse weather conditions across Kashmir, police in multiple districts have activated dedicated 24×7 emergency helpline services to assist the general public, tourists, and commuters facing difficulties due to inclement weather.

In Ganderbal, district police established emergency helpline numbers to ensure swift assistance during weather-related emergencies. Senior officers, SHOs, police posts, and the Police Control Room have been put on high alert to respond to distress calls round the clock. Police have also been actively assisting stranded tourists and locals in Gund and Sonamarg, helping evacuate vehicles stuck in deep snow and ensuring safe movement despite harsh conditions.

Similarly, Sopore Police activated emergency helpline numbers under the supervision of senior officers, urging citizens to seek immediate help in case of emergencies. Multiple police stations, deployment officers, and the Police Control Room are available 24×7 to provide support during snowfall.

In Awantipora, police established a district-wide emergency helpline to prevent untoward incidents and facilitate timely assistance. Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and contact police authorities whenever required.

Budgam Police also set up dedicated 24×7 helplines in view of forecasts of snowfall, strong winds, thunderstorms, and other extreme weather events. The Police Control Room, senior officers, SHOs, and police posts across the district have been tasked to ensure a quick response to any distress situation.

Meanwhile, in Shopian and Kulgam, J&K Police continued humanitarian efforts by assisting stranded residents and commuters. Police teams evacuated vehicles, cleared roads leading to hospitals, and ensured uninterrupted emergency medical access. In Shopian, police delivered an oxygen cylinder to a COPD patient during heavy snowfall, while in Kulgam, a pregnant woman was evacuated on foot to a health centre for urgent medical care.

Police across districts have appealed to the public and tourists to follow safety advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snowfall, and immediately reach out to the nearest police unit or helpline in case of any emergency, assuring full support round the clock.(KINS)
