Only eight districts approved for Ladli Beti scheme: Govt

Jammu, Feb 03 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the legislative Assembly that eight districts have been approved for the implementation of the Ladli Beti Scheme.

Replying to un-starred Assembly question no. 406 tabled by MLA Javid Hassan Baig, who raised the issue of non-implementation of the scheme in Baramulla, the Minister in-charge social welfare, as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said that the Ladli Beti Scheme was approved for implementation in eight districts—Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Srinagar, and Kishtwar—through Cabinet Decision No. 123/10/2015 dated September 7, 2015, and Cabinet Decision No. 60/08/2016 dated July 28, 2016.

The government said these districts were selected keeping in view their low girl child sex ratio,

Responding to concerns over alleged delays in the disbursement of financial assistance under the Marriage Assistance Scheme, the government denied any inordinate delay. It informed the House that during the current financial year, an amount of Rs 163.93 crore has been disbursed to 31,524 beneficiary girls.

It further stated that additional cases have already been sanctioned and the bills are under process. The government also disclosed that sanctions have been accorded for around 12,777 beneficiaries under the Marriage Assistance Scheme, with bills amounting to Rs 70.08 crore pending in the treasury for payment since October 2025.

Replying to a query regarding financial support for specially abled individuals, particularly children, the government said that the Social Welfare Department is already providing monthly financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) and the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
