Srinagar, June 23 (KINS): Director General of Police (DGP) J&K Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) 2026, directing all security agencies to strengthen coordination, intensify anti-terror operations, and ensure a safe and peaceful pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police, who briefed the DGP on the security arrangements and logistical preparations made for the annual pilgrimage.
Reviewing the overall preparedness, the DGP directed all agencies to reinforce security at vulnerable locations, particularly along the twin Yatra routes, National Highway and railway infrastructure. He stressed strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regular briefings for deployed personnel and enhanced vigilance to ensure operational readiness.
To improve pilgrim safety, Prabhat instructed officers to conduct awareness campaigns at Yatra camps through banners, posters and other information material highlighting safety guidelines and important do’s and don’ts.
Emphasising that there is no room for complacency, the DGP asked all security personnel to maintain the highest level of professionalism and ensure seamless coordination among agencies through timely intelligence sharing.
He also directed security forces to intensify anti-terror operations, including cordon and search operations around Yatra routes, National Highway stretches, railway stations and other vulnerable locations to neutralise the remaining terrorist threats.
The DGP further instructed officers to closely monitor social media platforms and take prompt legal action against those spreading rumours, misinformation or panic through fake content.
The meeting also reviewed security arrangements for the forthcoming Muharram observances. Prabhat directed officers to ensure robust security while maintaining close coordination with local Shia organisations for the smooth conduct of religious processions. He also called for comprehensive traffic management plans and advanced public notification of procession routes to minimise inconvenience.
The meeting concluded with all participating agencies reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safe, secure and peaceful conduct of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2026 and other upcoming religious events across the Kashmir Valley.(KINS)
