Srinagar, Jul 30 (KINS): Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’ on August 2 to combat drug abuse among the country’s youth.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during Question Hour, Mandaviya said the Prime Minister will address the nation on Nasha Mukti Diwas, when more than one crore young people are expected to take the Nasha Mukti pledge as part of the 100-week campaign aimed at spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and narcotic substances.
The campaign, to be coordinated by MY Bharat, an initiative of the Department of Youth Affairs, will include sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, street plays and awareness programmes across the country. Youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, NGOs, industry bodies and over 125 spiritual organisations will participate in the initiative.
Mandaviya said tackling drug addiction requires collective efforts, stressing that the government alone cannot eliminate the menace. He urged every section of society to encourage young people to stay away from drugs by promoting sports and awareness activities. (KINS)
