Mendhar, Aug 3 (KINS): At least three houses and a government school building have been completely destroyed, while more than six other houses have developed cracks after severe land subsidence struck Saroti Jabran village in the Mendhar subdivision of Poonch district.
Triggered by heavy rainfall on July 22, the land subsidence has continued for the past 12 days, posing a serious threat to nearly two dozen houses and forcing several families to evacuate their homes.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar, Imran Rashid Kataria, accompanied by Naib Tehsildar Mendhar Afzal Choudhary, Block Development Officer (BDO) Mendhar Irfan Ahmed, SDRF personnel, and other civil administration officials, visited the affected area to assess the damage and interact with the affected families.
The administration has provided temporary tents and ration to the displaced families and urged residents not to stay in vulnerable houses during the night. They have been advised to shift to the relief camps, where essential facilities have been arranged.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored, and a detailed assessment of the damage is underway.(KINS)
