Srinagar, October 16: The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), according to a post on the social media handle of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, held its first coordinated Friday sermon across participating mosques and Imambargahs in Kashmir Valley, Jammu, Chenab Valley, Kargil and Leh, with Imaan (faith) chosen as the common theme.
Mirwaiz delivered the Friday sermon at the historic Khanqah of Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA) at Charar-e-Sharief, emphasising the importance of safeguarding faith and remaining steadfast in religious beliefs and principles.
Addressing the congregation, Mirwaiz said faith was not merely a verbal declaration but the foundation of a believer’s life, reflected in character, conduct and dealings with others. He cautioned against compromising religious principles for wealth, position, influence or other worldly interests.
He also stressed Istiqamat (steadfastness), saying that remaining firm in faith during difficult circumstances was a key test of a believer. He added that steadfastness required wisdom, patience, dignity and moral courage.
Expressing concern over challenges faced by younger generations, including materialism, misuse of social media and declining religious awareness, Mirwaiz called upon parents, teachers, religious scholars and institutions to work collectively to nurture faith among young people.
According to the post, the initiative follows decisions taken at the MMU Ulema Conference on September 15, where religious scholars and representatives of different schools of thought agreed to address religious and social issues through coordinated Friday sermons and community-level awareness programmes.
Mirwaiz said Imaan was selected as the first common theme because faith unites the Muslim community beyond differences of Maslak (school of thought). He also emphasised that religious scholars and Imams must uphold the responsibility of the pulpit and use it to strengthen faith, guide society and promote unity rather than division.(KINS)
