Srinagar, Aug 21 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Warsaw, Poland, today for a significant two-day official visit aimed at deepening economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations. Upon landing at Warsaw Military Airport, PM Modi received a warm welcome, underscoring the importance of the relationship between India and Poland, which is now marking 70 years of diplomatic relations.
During his visit, PM Modi will participate in several key events, including laying a wreath at the Jam Sahib Nawanagar Memorial, which commemorates the contributions of Indian soldiers in World War II, and at the Monte Cassino and Kolhapur Memorials. These gestures reflect India’s historical ties with Poland and the shared sacrifices made during pivotal moments in history. Later, he will attend a community event where he will engage with the vibrant Indian diaspora in Warsaw.
In a statement prior to his departure, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of Poland as a key economic partner in Central Europe. “Our shared commitment to democracy and pluralism forms the bedrock of our relationship,” he stated, adding that his visit seeks to further cement the economic, cultural, and political ties that bind the two nations.
A significant moment in the visit will be PM Modi’s meetings with Polish leadership, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in over 45 years, marking a pivotal moment in the long-standing relationship between the two countries. Discussions will focus on trade, security, and cooperation in fields ranging from technology to energy, with both nations keen to explore new avenues of collaboration.
Adding to the importance of his European tour, PM Modi also announced a landmark visit to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since diplomatic relations were established in 1992.
Speaking about his upcoming Ukraine visit, Modi expressed optimism for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region. “I look forward to meeting President Zelenskyy to strengthen our bilateral cooperation and share our perspectives on peace and stability,” he said, underscoring India’s support for diplomacy and dialogue amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
