Apni Party unveils assembly election manifesto: Promises constitutional safeguards, restoration of statehood, & support for Kashmiri Pandits

KINS Desk
Srinagar, Aug 21 (KINS): The Apni Party has launched its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections, outlining a comprehensive agenda aimed at preserving the cultural identity of Jammu and Kashmir and working towards the restoration of statehood for the Union Territory. The manifesto was unveiled during a press conference by the party’s General Secretary, Rafi Mir, alongside other senior leaders.
Key highlights of the manifesto include a strong commitment to pressing the central government for constitutional guarantees similar to those provided under Article 371 in certain northeastern states. These guarantees are intended to protect the cultural and special identity of Jammu and Kashmir, including safeguards for land and job security.
“The Apni Party is dedicated to ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir receives the necessary constitutional protections to preserve its unique identity. Our focus will be on securing land and job protections and addressing the sense of loss felt by the people,” Mir stated during the press conference.
The manifesto emphasizes the party’s determination to restore statehood, a promise initially made by the Union Home Minister on August 5, 2019. The Apni Party also pledges to revisit and reinstate laws that have been repealed or amended over time, aiming to secure protections for local youth in terms of employment and land rights.
“Upon the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, we will advocate for the reinstatement of a bicameral legislature, including both a Legislative Assembly and a Legislative Council, as existed before August 5, 2019,” the manifesto detailed.
Addressing the issue of Kashmiri Pandits, the Apni Party has committed to facilitating their dignified return and rehabilitation. If elected, the party plans to establish an apex committee chaired by the Chief Minister and including representatives from registered Kashmiri Pandit organizations. This committee will meet every six months to address migration issues and support the community.
“We are committed to the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits. An apex committee will be formed to work closely with their representatives and ensure that their concerns are addressed effectively,” the manifesto noted.
Additionally, the Apni Party vows to advocate for the early release of detainees not involved in serious crimes, aiming to address concerns regarding wrongful detention.
The manifesto reflects the Apni Party’s strategic focus on both restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s political status and addressing key social issues, promising a concerted effort to enhance the region’s governance and social stability.(KINS)
