Srinagar, Aug 26 (KINS): The streets of Srinagar came alive with vibrant celebrations as Kashmiri Pandits marked Janmashtami with deep religious fervor and cultural pride.
The highlight of the festivities was the traditional ‘Shoba Yatra,’ a grand procession that wove its way through key locations in the city, symbolizing both spiritual devotion and communal harmony.
Starting from the Kathleshwar temple in Tankipora, the Shoba Yatra featured a colorful display of traditional attire, with children leading the way on a decorated “Jhanki.” The procession meandered through Habbakadal, Ganpathyar, Barbar Shah, Regal Chowk, Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, and Jahangir Chowk, drawing a spirited crowd and drawing attention from passersby.
“This Janmashtami procession is more than just a celebration; it’s a way for us to reclaim our cultural heritage and renew the spirit of unity within our community. It sends a powerful message of peace and harmony throughout the entire region,” said Sanjay Saraf, a prominent political leader who participated in the yatra.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from not only Kashmiri Pandits but also from members of the Sikh and Muslim communities, reflecting the strong communal bonds in the region.
Rakhi, another devotee, shared her joy, saying, “It is the festival of Lord Krishna, and we should celebrate it with great enthusiasm. That’s why we are dancing and celebrating here on the streets of Srinagar. We believe that by dancing in front of God, all our sins are washed away.”
The Shoba Yatra took place amid tight security arrangements, with local authorities deploying additional forces to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the celebrations. The event was marked by the chanting of religious hymns and a palpable sense of devotion.
In a message of solidarity, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended his warmest greetings to the people of Jammu & Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, highlighting the festival’s significance in fostering communal harmony and spiritual unity.(KINS)
