New Delhi, Oct 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made history by becoming the first individual to enroll as an ‘active member’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the launch of the party’s ‘Sakriya Sadasyata Abhiyan’ in New Delhi.
In the presence of BJP President J P Nadda and General Secretary Vinod Tawde, who oversees the nationwide membership drive, Modi emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement. He explained that to qualify as an ‘active member,’ individuals must enroll at least 50 new party members in their respective booths or assembly seats.
On social media platform X, Modi stated, “Adding momentum to our endeavour of making a Viksit Bharat! As BJP Karyakarta, proud to become the first Sakriya Sadasya and launch the Sakriya Sadasyata Abhiyan today… This is a movement which will further strengthen our Party at the grassroots and ensure effective contribution of our Party Karyakartas for national progress.”
Active members will also have the opportunity to contest elections for positions in the ‘Mandal Committee’ and higher. Modi noted that this initiative is designed to foster greater involvement among party workers in shaping the party’s future.
The BJP conducts a membership drive every six years, requiring existing members to re-enroll while also welcoming new members.
