Srinagar, Oct 20: A brutal terror attack at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday evening claimed the lives of six people, including a local doctor and four non-local laborers. Five others were injured in the attack, which took place near Gagangeer along the Srinagar-Leh highway, where workers were engaged in the strategic Z-Morh tunnel project.
Officials reported that two militants opened indiscriminate fire on the laborers and staff after they had returned to their camp in the evening. Two non-local workers were killed on the spot, while nine others, including a local doctor, sustained injuries. Unfortunately, four of the injured, including the doctor, succumbed to their wounds later in the evening.
The deceased have been identified as Dr. Shahnawaz, Faheem Nazir, Kaleem, Mohammad Hanif, Shashi Abrol, Anil Shukla, and Gurmeet Singh. Authorities are still working to confirm all identities but have reported that four of the six victims were non-local laborers.
Following the attack, security forces quickly cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to track down the assailants. Senior police and army officers, including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi, are on the ground overseeing the operation.
