J&K athletes make a splash at National rowing championship, win multiple medals

Srinagar, Nov 11 (KINS): Athletes from Jammu & Kashmir’s Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) for Rowing at Nehru Park, Srinagar, made waves with a stellar performance at the All India Inter-SAI Rowing Championship, hosted by the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Alleppey, Kerala.
Among the notable victories, Zainab Shafi of Baramulla clinched a bronze in the Senior Women’s Single Sculls (W1X) category. Meanwhile, Srinagar natives Irtiza Ali and Muntazir Ali Matoo demonstrated impressive teamwork to secure a bronze in the Junior Men’s Pair (JM2) category. In all, a 10-member team represented Jammu & Kashmir, highlighting the region’s burgeoning water sports talent on the national stage.
Congratulating the athletes, Shri Satish Sharma, J&K’s Minister for Youth Services and Sports, lauded their dedication and resilience, emphasizing the state’s potential as a national water sports hub. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing high-quality training and resources to further elevate athletes from the region.
Sarmad Hafeez, IAS, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, also commended the team, highlighting the exceptional promise J&K athletes continue to display. Similarly, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, celebrated the win as a milestone for J&K in water sports, applauding the athletes for their hard-earned success and determination.(KINS)
