New digital complaint system under BNSS; JK Police registers over 100 zero FIRs

Srinagar, Feb 28 (KINS): : Under the newly implemented Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), citizens of Jammu and Kashmir now have multiple digital avenues to lodge complaints, including SMS, email, WhatsApp, Citizen Service Centers, and web portals. This initiative aims to simplify the complaint registration process and enhance accessibility for the public.

As of now, police stations across the Union Territory have received 52 complaints via SMS and email, 64 through Citizen Service Centers, and 10 from web portals. Over 70 such complaints have been converted into formal FIRs. According to Section 173 of BNSS, all electronic complaints must be recorded by the police, but the complainant is required to provide a physical signature within three days.

In terms of Zero FIRs, over 100 such cases have been registered in different police stations across J&K, with 83 FIRs transferred to police stations outside the Union Territory.

Given the rising awareness of cybercrime trends, the police have implemented strict checks and balances to prevent any misuse of the eFIR system. Authorities continue to encourage citizens to utilize these digital complaint platforms responsibly while ensuring swift action on genuine grievances.(KINS)
