‘One Nation, One Election’ will strengthen democracy, ensure stability: Priya Sethi
Jammu, March 13 (KINS): Senior BJP leader and former minister Priya Sethi strongly advocated for the implementation of the “One Nation, One Election” initiative, emphasizing that it will enhance democratic stability, reduce election-related expenditures, and ensure seamless governance across the country.
Speaking at a program organized in Jammu as per KINS, Sethi underscored the transformative potential of this electoral reform, particularly for Jammu and Kashmir. The event was attended by MLA Bahu Constituency Vikram Randhawa, District President (South) Naresh Singh, Mandal President Nitesh Mahahan, Chief Patron Ashok Gupta, Chief Advisor Shubchander Verma, RC K.S. Samyal, Vice President T.P. Puri, former District President Rekha Gupta, and several other dignitaries.
Sethi highlighted that holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies would streamline the electoral process and prevent frequent disruptions in governance. “Frequent elections put a financial strain on the economy and divert the government’s focus from development. ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a visionary step toward efficiency and stability, allowing governments to prioritize policy-making and long-term planning instead of being in constant election mode,” she stated.
Priya Sethi emphasized the importance of this reform in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, which has witnessed prolonged political instability. “J&K has suffered due to fragmented political processes and recurrent elections. Implementing this reform will provide much-needed continuity in governance, ensuring that development projects are completed without unnecessary delays,” she asserted.
She further stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for this reform is in the national interest, as it would enhance voter participation, create uniformity in the electoral cycle, and strengthen the democratic framework. “Simultaneous elections will foster a more accountable and efficient government, essential for a progressive India,” she added.
Urging all political parties to support the initiative, Sethi remarked that electoral reforms should be seen beyond political lines as they serve the larger national interest. She reiterated that “One Nation, One Election” is a crucial step toward realizing the dream of “Viksit Bharat” and will pave the way for a new era of governance in Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
