Home Minister Amit Shah Distributes Appointment Letters to Cross-Border Shelling Victim Families in Poonch

Jammu, May 30 (KINS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived in Poonch on Friday, distributed appointment letters to the families affected by recent cross-border shelling in the district.
Accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials, and top security personnel, Shah is scheduled to meet with bereaved families to offer condolences.
Sources told news agency KINS that the Home Minister is also expected to visit local religious sites and interact with personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed along the Line of Control (LoC).
Poonch was the worst-hit district during the intense cross-border hostilities from May 7 to May 10, accounting for 14 of the 28 total civilian casualties reported during the flare-up. Shah’s visit is seen as a message of solidarity and reassurance from the central government to the border residents.
The recent violence prompted the launch of Operation Sindoor earlier this month—an intensified security initiative aimed at curbing ceasefire violations, drone intrusions, and targeted civilian attacks. The operation has led to a significant increase in troop deployment and surveillance in border districts such as Poonch and Rajouri.
Before reaching Poonch, Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in Jammu late Thursday night, focusing on the security landscape in border areas and preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
“The government will leave no stone unturned to provide all required facilities to the Amarnath pilgrims,” Shah asserted, directing security forces to maintain maximum vigilance.
In a post on X (formerly twitter), Shah wrote: “Chaired a review meeting for the Amarnath Pilgrimage and evaluated the security arrangements and preparedness meant for the pilgrims. Instructed to maintain utmost vigilance and ensure seamless completion of the sacred journey.”
The annual Amarnath Yatra, one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages, is set to begin on July 3 and will conclude on August 9. Tight security arrangements have been put in place for Shah’s visit, including drone surveillance, aerial monitoring, and increased paramilitary deployments across sensitive zones. (KINS)
