Heavy rain alert in Jammu Division from August 13–15, MeT warns of flood and landslide risks

Srinagar, Aug 13(KINS): The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Jammu division from August 13 to 15, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

A MeT official said the weather will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many areas, and there is a strong possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in districts including Reasi, Udhampur, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Doda, and Rajouri, particularly during the night and early morning hours over the next three days.

Parts of the Kashmir division may also receive moderate rain with brief intense showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms during this period.

The official cautioned about possible flash floods in vulnerable areas, along with landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in hilly terrain. “Thunder, lightning, and gusty winds are expected at a few places,” he added.

Looking ahead, the weather on August 16 is likely to be hot and humid, with the possibility of brief showers at isolated spots. From August 17–19, light to moderate rain is predicted in many areas, with heavy rainfall at a few locations in Jammu division, mostly during the late night and early morning hours.

Authorities have advised people to stay away from rivers, streams, and unstable slopes, and avoid venturing near loose structures.(KINS)
