SIA conducts raids in Kashmir valley in UAPA case; incriminating material seized

Srinagar, Oct 08 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday carried out extensive searches at multiple locations across the Kashmir Valley in connection with an ongoing investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials said.

According to officials, the coordinated raids were conducted in several districts, including Anantnag, Kulgam, and Baramulla. In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, searches took place in Rafiabad and Sopore areas, while in south Kashmir, SIA teams carried out operations in Padapora Badasgam area of Anantnag and Kalam area of Kulgam.

The raids were aimed at gathering evidence and uncovering networks linked to activities under the UAPA case being investigated by the agency. Officials confirmed to KINS that several incriminating documents were seized during the operations, which are now being examined for further leads.

The SIA, mandated to investigate terror-related and anti-national activities, is empowered under the UAPA to file a chargesheet within 180 days of an arrest, with the duration extendable by court approval. The Act prescribes stringent punishments, including life imprisonment and the death penalty for the gravest offences.(KINS)
