Baramulla Police Conduct Comprehensive SIM Vendor Verification Drive in Uri Sub-Division

Baramulla, Oct 08 (KINS): In a proactive move to ensure compliance with telecom regulations, Baramulla Police carried out an extensive verification drive of SIM vendors across the Uri Sub-Division, under the supervision of SDPO Uri.
The drive covered all police stations and posts in the region, including PS Uri, Boniyar, Bijhama, and PPs Kamalkote and Uroosa. Station House Officers (SHOs) and police post in-charges conducted on-ground inspections to verify adherence to Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines and other legal provisions governing SIM issuance.
Vendors were checked for proper maintenance of customer verification records, functional CCTV installations, and compliance with biometric authentication procedures. While most vendors were found to be maintaining proper documentation and following prescribed norms, they were reminded to strictly adhere to Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and ensure timely submission of records to telecom service providers. Vendors were also instructed to retain hard copies of Aadhaar and customer photographs as part of their records.
Authorities sensitized vendors about the legal consequences of negligence in the verification process, warning that any deviation from DoT norms would attract strict legal action. To prevent misuse of SIM cards for unlawful or anti-social activities, the police have instituted follow-up inspections and continuous monitoring mechanisms.
The drive is part of Baramulla Police’s ongoing initiative to strengthen preventive measures, enhance accountability, and ensure that telecom service retailers operate responsibly within the legal framework.(KINS)
