J&K Fire & Emergency Services issues winter safety advisory

Srinagar, Oct 13 (KINS): The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Jammu & Kashmir, has issued an advisory for the general public to remain vigilant during the winter season amid a rise in fire incidents.

The advisory as per news gathering agency KINS lists precautionary measures to prevent fire accidents, including ensuring electrical heating gadgets, stoves, and LPG appliances are switched off when not in use, using Kangris carefully, avoiding storage of combustible materials inside homes, and refraining from using faulty electrical appliances.

It also emphasizes using quality fuses, miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), and earth leakage circuit breakers, keeping wires away from hot or wet surfaces, staying in the kitchen while cooking, maintaining proper ventilation while using LPG heaters, and keeping escape routes and water access points clear. Careless disposal of cigarette butts is strictly discouraged.

In case of fire emergencies, the public is advised to immediately call Fire & Emergency Services toll-free number 101, or contact the Srinagar Control Room at 0194-2452155/2452222, Jammu Control Room at 0191-2457705/2435283, or the nearest fire station.(KINS)
