Five-Day Capacity Building Training for Trainers on Grassroot Intervention and Community Rehabilitation in Substance Abuse Concludes Successfully in Srinagar
Srinagar, Nov 29: A five-day Capacity Building Training of Trainers on “Grassroot Intervention and Community Rehabilitation on Substance Abuse” concluded today, marking a significant stride toward strengthening community-based responses to substance use across the Kashmir Valley.
The intensive program was conducted on the directions of the Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education, and was jointly organized by the Drug De-addiction Centre, Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) , GMC , Srinagar Kashmir, and the Child Guidance & Wellbeing Centre (CGWC). The training brought together doctors and counsellors from various Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) and Medical Officers of the Directorate of Health Services across Kashmir. The programme aimed at equipping them with essential skills in early identification, intervention, therapeutic counselling, and community-oriented rehabilitation for individuals affected by substance use, and preparing them to serve as trainers and community resource persons in their respective districts.
Resource persons and experienced staff from IMHANS and CGWC facilitated the sessions, delivering specialized modules, interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and participatory learning activities to enhance the professional capacities of the participants and strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level.

In their remarks, the dignitaries highlighted the increasing need for professionally trained mental health and addiction support providers in the region. They appreciated IMHANS Kashmir and the Child Guidance & Wellbeing Centre for spearheading efforts to build a skilled workforce capable of addressing substance use disorders through comprehensive community-based approaches.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants, acknowledging their commitment to enhancing mental health and addiction services in Kashmir.
