Baramulla, Dec 18 (KINS):
The Mechanical Department in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has stepped up preparations to tackle any eventuality arising from snowfall, with officials asserting full readiness across the region.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Mechanical Department Baramulla, Tanveer Ahmad, said the department’s control room has been operational since November 15 to ensure a swift response during the winter season.
“This year, on the directions of the Baramulla district administration and local MLAs, the main control room at Baramulla has been decentralised,” Ahmad told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS). “We have established three additional control rooms at Kreeri, Sopore and Watergam. The department is fully prepared to deal with any situation in case of snowfall.”
He said adequate manpower and machinery have been kept on standby to ensure smooth movement on roads and timely snow clearance, particularly on vital and interior routes.
According to Ahmad, the Mechanical Department has a total of 34 snow clearance machines available in Baramulla district, several of which have already been strategically deployed at designated locations. “Four machines have been deployed at Watergam, five at Kreeri and four at Sopore, while the remaining machines are positioned at other key locations across the district,” he said.
Officials said the department will remain on high alert throughout the winter season and urged residents to cooperate with field staff during snow clearance operations. (KINS
