Dr Farooq Abdullah urges newly elected Governments to work for all sections of society

Srinagar, May 05 (KINS): National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said newly elected governments should work for the welfare and progress of all people without discrimination on the basis of religion or language.

Speaking to reporters at Charar-e-Sharief in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Abdullah said governments must keep in mind the country’s diversity while carrying out their responsibilities.

Reacting to the election results, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the people have already delivered their verdict through the democratic process.

“New governments have been elected. May they work for the betterment of the people and ensure that every section of society progresses,” he said.

Farooq Abdullah also stressed the importance of conducting local bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir, saying Panchayats and local institutions form the foundation of democracy.

He said local representatives play a key role in development at the grassroots level and in addressing public issues, adding that elections to these bodies should be held without delay.(KINS)
