ACB J&K produces charge sheet against former Patwari, another in Udhampur bribery case

Jammu, Sept 12 (KINS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu & Kashmir, on Saturday produced a charge sheet before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Udhampur, against a former Patwari and another accused in a bribery case registered in 2023.

The charge sheet was filed in connection with FIR No. 01/2023 registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.

According to the ACB, the case was registered on the basis of a written complaint lodged by a resident of Rasli Gadheran, Basantgarh. The complainant had applied for issuance of a fard of his land, which he intended to sell to another person. He subsequently approached the then Patwari, who allegedly demanded a bribe for issuing the revenue document.

The complaint was verified by an officer of the ACB Udhampur-Reasi Branch. The verification report found the allegations to be genuine and recommended registration of an FIR.

Accordingly, the case was registered and a trap was laid by the ACB. During the operation, the then Patwari, along with Nashar Ahmad, who was driving a vehicle bearing registration number JK02 BV-9048, was caught allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.

During the investigation, the ACB collected evidence which established the commission of an offence punishable under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, against the accused persons.

The charge sheet has now been produced before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Udhampur, for further judicial proceedings.(KINS)
