DC Bandipora orders probe into Gurez Mother-Newborn deaths, assures action

Mir Aatif

Bandipora, Oct 15 (KINS): Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib has ordered an inquiry into the deaths of a woman and her newborn baby in Gurez. She said action would be taken against those found responsible if negligence is established.
Chib said a preliminary inquiry had been completed, and its report, along with a proposal for action against the concerned doctor, had been sent to the Director of Health Services.
She also said financial assistance had been provided to the bereaved family through the Red Cross.
The development comes after protests in Dawar, the main town of Gurez, where residents demanded accountability over the deaths.
According to reports, the newborn died before delivery, while the woman was declared dead on arrival at District Hospital Bandipora on Wednesday morning.
Questions have been raised about the arrangements made to shift the woman to the hospital. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate said the administration had coordinated with the concerned agencies to check road conditions and facilitate ambulance movement. The Block Medical Officer said the Health Department had informed the administration in time.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo had also assured action if any negligence or administrative lapses were found.
The inquiry will examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine whether any medical or administrative lapses occurred.(KINS)
