Chanapora attack was carried to loot weapon: SSP Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 28 : Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three OGWs who were involved in Chanapora attack in which one cop (Santri) was seriously injured. According to police, the attack was aimed to snatch a weapon and was conspired by Jaish-e-Mohammad.

As per news agency, giving details about the modus operandi of the attack, SSP Srinagar Dr Haseeb Mughal said that three bike borne youth had planned the whole attack.

“All the three persons who are close aides of a Pulwama based militant Sameer have been identified as Mushtaq, Junaid and Lateef. Mushtaq is the one who fired on the police cop leaving him critically injured. Junaid had visited the police station twice in connection to know the status of his passport verification while Lateef is the one who was driving the motor cycle,” SSP said.

Dr Haseeb Mughal said that police cracked the case within 30 hours after the attack. He said the police zeroed in all the suspects who were on the police radar and strengthened the intelligence grid.

“After several roundups we got arrested these three youths who accepted their involvement in the attack. The attack was planned in Pulwama district and was conspired by militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. The three persons who have been arrested were colleagues of JeM militant Sameer who was a student in Kashmir University,” he said.

SSP claimed to have recovered some ammunition and six live bullets from them. He said the investigation is still going on to know the exact motive of the attack. (KNS)
