SRINAGAR, June 27: Union Home Minster Amit Shah has directed that prominent public places should be named after slain policemen in Kashmir.
During his two-day visit to the state of JK on Wednesday and Thursday, the Home Minister held a number of meetings with officials to assess the security scenario in the state, review preparations for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra and provide good governance in the state.
Chief Secretary JK B V R Subramanium along with Union Special Secretary Home, (Internal Security), A P Maheshwari addressed a joint press conference briefed on Home Minister’s two days visit.
“The Union Home Minister while appreciating the significant improvement in all the parameters relating to the security situation directed that there should be zero tolerance towards militancy and militants. There should be continued strict action against militancy funding and the rule of law should be enforced,” Subramanium and Maheshwari quoted Shah having said.
The Home Minister has praised the work of Jammu and Kashmir Police in “countering” militancy. “He directed that state government should commemorate the martyrdom of its policemen in their home towns/villages in an appropriate manner each year. Prominent public places should also be named after slain policemen,” they said in the press conference.
Earlier on Thursday, Shah visited the home of slain inspector JK police, Arshad Khan and consoled his bereaved family. He handed over an appointment letter to his wife for a job in the state government.
During the meetings, he has directed security agencies that there should be “zero tolerance” towards militancy and militants. “There should be continued strict action against militancy funding,” he has directed.
The Home Minister has laid emphasis that there should be no laxity and strict enforcement of the SOPs should be ensured. “Senior officers should personally supervise the arrangements. Forces should ensure best possible optimum use of latest technologies and the gadgets not only for the security of the Yatra but also to facilitate the movement of the devotees and the tourists,” he has directed.
Shah specifically drew attention of the forces towards anti-sabotage as well as anti-subversion drills and the access control procedures.
