Pakistan knocked out of WC19; Shoaib Malik calls it quits

Shoaib Malik, Pakistan’s all-rounder, announced his retirement from One Day International cricket. The news came right after Pakistan played their last game of the World Cup 2019, against Bangladesh.

Malik, who is married to Indian tennis player, Sania Mirza, just played three games in the World cup in which he scored merely 8 runs. While he has decided to move on from the ODI cricket, he will still play T20 cricket.

Malik has played 287 ODIs for his team, scoring a total of 7534 runs, including 9 centuries and 44 half centuries. Besides, he has also picked up 158 wickets during his cricketing career.

“I have no regrets. But it’s just that I have been too flexible in my batting order. I have batted wherever the team wanted. I have been dropped many times, I missed a few years of international cricket and have been around for 20 years,” Malik said. “I am disappointed to be judged on two bad games here,” he further added, commenting on his poor performance in the World Cup.
