Post-Paid phone restoration: Telecom giants earn Rs 100 Crore in just four days

Srinagar, Oct 17 : With the restoration of postpaid cellular services in Kashmir, the major telecom giants including Reliance Jio, Airtel, BSNL, Idea,  and Vodafone continue to receive the pending bill payments up to the tune of  Rs 95 Crore from its 40 lakh subscriber base from Kashmir’s postpaid mobile users.

According to wire news service at least 40 lakh postpaid connections were restored after 70 days across Kashmir on October 14 (Monday). However, majority of subscribers had got their monthly and rental plans expired prompting them to rush to the concerned service providers to clear their dues.

Sources privy to the leading telecom companies operating in Kashmir revealed that they received approximately Rs 95 crore from their respective subscriber base in just four days i.e. from October 14 to October 17.

Shafat Ahmad, an employee at Jio Telecom said that, “Soon after the restoration of postpaid services in valley we started receiving the bill payments from our postpaid subscribers.”

He said that, most of the postpaid subscribers complained about the suspension of services which was caused due to the non-payment and expiry of bill plans. He further added, “We are continuously receiving the bills amid the ongoing uncertainty and internet gag which resulted in the closure of various recharge outlets in Kashmir.”

Asif Malik, a BSNL subscriber said that , “I was unaware about my outstanding bill due to which my services were suspended by the telecom operator, but that is not justified I was charged during the suspension of telecom services in the valley.”

He said that, soon after the postpaid services resumed in the valley he was shocked by the suspension of his number. He further added, “My number was bared just because of non-payment of Rs. 1300 and after facing alot of hurdles somehow I cleared the outstanding balance in order to get my number working again after a period of 70 days of suspension.” (KNO)
