Snow Fury in Gurez: Avalanche damages several houses, kills livestock worth lakhs

Bandipora, Jan 17 : Dozens of livestock were killed while five residential houses were damaged after an avalanche hit Badugam village of Tulail in the Gurez sector on Thursday night.

According to wire service-, around 30 sheep l, a cow and a Buffalo were killed while 5 residential houses were partially damaged after an avalanche hit Badugam village.

Officials said that the avalanche hit the village last evening damaging several residential houses and also killed the livestock. A girl also came under the snow who was saved by the timely a ton of local police.

An official said that Sarfeena Sarwar came under heavy snow, however, she was saved by the police and was shifted to a nearby hospital where her condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, a preliminary damage report compiled by the district administration reveals that 137 structures have been damaged district Bandipora over the past three days due to heavy snowfall in the area.

Details available with news agency reveal that 59 structures have been damaged in Bandipora, while 27 in Hajin, 13 in Ajas, 12 in Gurez and 26 in Tulail. Out of 59 structures damaged in Bandipora 24 residential houses have been damaged partially while 2 houses have been damaged fully. 

In Gurez and Tulail 8 and 19 residential houses have been partially damaged. A government high school has also been fully damaged in Tulail area after an avalanche hit the area.

In Dawar tehsil of Gurez a hotel and restaurant has also been damaged fully due to a snow avalanche that hit the area two days ago. (KNO)
