‘Farewell party organized for outgoing Commissioner Secretary’, Govt maintains silence

Srinagar, April 30 (KINS):  Authorities have maintained silence after a farewell party was organized for outgoing Commissioner Secretary in violation of lockdown norms.

There is complete ban on any social, political or religious gathering to contain the COVID-19. However, throwing rules to the wind, a farewell party, attended by many senior government officials, was organized for the outgoing Commissioner Secretary.

Sources told news agency KINS that the party was held on Wednesday evening at guest house of Roads and Buildings Department Gandhi Nagar Jammu.

“There was no social distancing. The party was attended by many officials. Multiple dishes were served,” an official said.

The official said guest house was opened on Wednesday only for the farewell party. “Authorities have maintained silence how the party was allowed when there is complete ban on any such gathering,” the official added.

A video of the party has also gone viral where many officials who attended the party are seen fleeing when media persons reached there. In the video, waiters are seen ferrying plates with left over of multiple dishes. Some official are seen sneaking out from the backdoors to ensure they are not caught on camera. Even bouquets and gift packs are seen lying in main room of the guest house.

One of the participants in the party is seen saying, “We had come to see the outgoing Commissioner Secretary.”  The outgoing Commissioner Secretary was seen running towards his official car Honda City to give slip to the media persons.

Governments in various states have initiated criminal proceedings against those who attended any party.

Meanwhile, authorities are maintaining silence whether there will be any action against the violators. Several top officials refused to comment on the issue.

When KINS asked Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar he dropped the call. Later he did not receive repeated calls.KINS)
