After Supreme Court’s Direction, PDP Leaders Ask Permission To Meet Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar, Oct 01(KINS): Two days after Supreme Court of India issued a direction to former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti that she can seek permission from the local administration to attend the party meet, PDP leaders on Wednesday wrote a letter to District Magistrate Srinagar to seek permission to meet her at her Gupkar residence, where she is presently held under house detention.

In the letter, a copy of which is with news agency Kashmir Dot Com-(KDC), signed by senior PDP leaders G N Lone Hanjura, A R Veer, Khurshid Alam and Ajaz Ajaz Ahmed Mir, they have said that the party president Mehbooba Mufti is under detention from 5th August 2019, while her place of detention has been changed to Fairview, despite repeated requests, they have not been allowed to meet her, due to which they have not had a chance to enquire about the wellbeing of the party president and to discuss party issues with her, while a last such plea was submitted on 31-08-2019.

The letter further reads that the party is annexing the order of Supreme Court of India, whereby it has been directed that “As and when a request is made to meet Mehbooba Mufti that should be promptly considered by the concerned authorities in accordance with law”.

“In light of the directions of the Court, we her by renew our request to allow us Ms. Mehbooba Mufti at the designated sub-jail, Fairview, Gupkar. We believe that denial of such permission will hereon be in contravention of the SC order”, the letter reads.

Meanwhile, sources have said that there is a strong likelihood of party leaders being allowed to meet Mehbooba Mufti after the said leaders have formally written to DM Srinagar seeking permission to meet her. (KDC)
