Army launches free tailoring, stitching classes for women of Sarnwa, Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, OCT 02 ( KINS): As part of its Social Welfare initiatives undertaken to develop an alternate self sustained way of life, the Indian Army launched a 60 day free tailoring and stitching classes for women of Sarnwa (Shergwari), Kishtwar district.

The project is aimed at emancipating economic conditions and helping the women earn a livelihood through self employment. This training will include basic stitching, measurements and marketing of finished products.

This novel training programme is a pilot project wherein unemployed women beneficiaries have been selected to show the collective strength of women by forming a Self Help Group (SHG). A total of 09 women were selected to undergo the tailoring course at Sarnwa village for a duration of two months starting from 02 Oct to 30 Nov 2021.

The beneficiaries include women who are victims of terrorist attacks, family members of permanently incapacitated/ killed terrorists and females below poverty line.  The training will be imparted by competent instructor from the village & from the Department of Social Welfare. Classes will be conducted under close supervision of the Army by adhering to disciplined and convenient schedules. The course also aims at enhancing self confidence and entrepreneurship skills of the ladies to carry out their work in a more professional manner. This initiative will provide mentorship and handheld support to the SHG enhancing greater capability for self employment in future.

The local population as well as the ladies lauded the efforts of the Army for venturing out in encouraging self- livelihood and employment to the local populace and especially its contribution to women empowerment. ( KINS)
