JOURNEY OF KARGIL VICTORY FLAME THROUGH MACHHAL SECTOR:

Srinagar, 11 Jul 2022. Kargil Victory Flame, travelling across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, reached Kupwara on 09 July 22. It made its way further towards the Machhal Sector, where it was accorded a grand welcome by the locals as well as the troops of the Indian Army at various locations enroute. On arrival at Machhal, the Victory Flame was warmly received with tremendous enthusiasm and zeal by the locals, NCC cadets and school children alongside all ranks of the Indian Army. It was accorded a guard of honour at the Maratha Smriti Sthal, where the flame was rested overnight.

On 10 July 22, the wreath laying ceremony was organized at the Machhal War Memorial in the presence of Mia Gul Khan, a War Veteran of 1971 Indo-Pak War. This was followed by a patriotic cultural event by the locals alongside the soldiers. The event culminated with felicitation of Veer Naaris and Veterans. More than 300 civilians, including civil dignitaries and teachers, 236 children including NCC cadets joined the Indian Army in commemorating the event. The Victory Flame procession thereafter moved to Dudi, T’ Suntwari and further to one of the forward post of the Indian Army before returning to Machhal for the night.

The Victory Flame was given a warm and ceremonial sendoff on its way out of the Machhal Sector on 11 Jul 22 and handed over to another Indian Army Formation for further continuation of its journey.
