Srinagar, Dec 09: In a stern message to those exploiting social media platforms to propagate terror narratives and disrupt peace in the region, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdhi, stated on Saturday that such individuals will face legal consequences.

Speaking to reporters in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Birdhi emphasized that individuals found misusing social media to disturb peace, law, and order will be dealt with according to the law.

He expressed concern about the potential misuse of online platforms to spread radical thoughts and disturb the tranquility of the region.

“Those who use social media platforms for disturbing peace, law & order, and spreading terror narrative will be dealt with as per the law,” stated the IGP.

He underlined the commitment of the police force to act firmly against anyone involved in activities that could disrupt the law and order situation in the valley. “Nobody will be allowed to deteriorate peace and tranquility in the valley. Whoever is involved in breaching the law won’t be spared,” he asserted.

Acknowledging the role of social media in contemporary communication, IGP Kashmir Zone emphasized the need to counsel individuals who might be inadvertently sharing incriminating content, steering them away from radical thoughts.

He indicated a proactive approach to address the issue, combining legal action with efforts to guide those unknowingly contributing to the disruption of peace.

IGP Vidhi Kumar Birdhi highlighted his ongoing efforts to assess the law enforcement preparedness in different districts.

“After I took charge as the IG Kashmir Zone, I have been visiting every district one-by-one, and today I visited Bandipora. The aim of the visit was to check the preparations of the Bandipore police and identify any refinements required,” he added.
