Father tries to bury infant son with deformity, arrested

Srinagar, Jan 1 : A father tried to bury alive his infant son having deformity at Malkha graveyard in Srinagar’s Old City.

Police arrested the man who claimed to be poor and unable to sustain the son.

Reports reaching GNS said the person Manzoor Ahmad Banyari, a resident of Check Shopian, approached a gravedigger in Malkha asking him to dig a grave for the infant baby who he told him died yesterday late afternoon.

The baby, according to official sources, was born a few days back at Valley’s premier maternity hospital Lal Ded here and was suffering from a tumor.

As soon the gravedigger placed the infant inside the grave, the baby suddenly started screaming which caught the attention of locals, they said.

In the meantime, a group of people caught hold of the man and handed him over to police station Nowhatta.

A police officer while confirming the incident told GNS that a case under FIR number 72 under section 317 RPC has been registered and further investigations taken up.

However, the man has been released on court orders today, the officer said.

The officer added that the baby boy has been shifted to LD Hospital and is under treatment there in the caretaker ward. (GNS)
