Two dead, as many missing after snow avalanche hits Ramban village

Two persons, including a minor girl, died and two others went missing after a snow avalanche hit Trigam village of Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Reports said that a snow avalanche hit Kawana area near Trigam village at 3 pm today, resulting into death of 25-year-old Muhammad Rafiq and 12-year-old Sumerna.

They said that two women, Fatha Begum (30) and Taja Begum (32) were missing after the avalanche.

An official said the avalanche hit the village when all the four persons were heading towards their home in Trigam, located 50 km from Ramban in Khardi tehsil.
He said that rescuers were trying to locate the missing women.
He said the deputy commissioner Ramban has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs 4 in favour of each of the NoKs of the deceased. (GK)
