J&K Government Sets Up Committee To Examine State Toll Tax

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday constituted a committee to examine the extent of state toll tax charged at the Lakhanpur toll post in Kathua district on entry of goods into the state.

An order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) said on Monday that sanction was accorded to the constitution of a committee to examine the level of toll tax being levied on various products entering the state, production of those products within the state and the export of locally produced products from the state.

Officials of the state tax and industries departments and members of the local chambers of commerce and industry have been nominated as members of the committee.

Traders and industrialists in the state have been opposing the levying of tax on goods on their entry into the state.

They said that under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, levying tax other than GST defeats the objective of the one country, one tax rule implemented in the country under GST.(IANS)
