Five persons detained from Shopian

Government forces carried out intense search operations and detained five persons from Vehil and Nowgam hamlets of Shopian district, a source said.

He said that three persons were picked up from Vehil . They were identified as Umar Shafi, Asif Malik and Faheem Shah. And the two persons Aqib and Adil Nazir were arrested from Nowgam.

A senior official who didn’t want to be named said that the detained youth were being quizzed in a militancy related case.

The arrests were made two days after a resident of Vehil was detained by police near Jawahar Tunnel in connection with Banihal blast case.

Another police official told Greater Kashmir that a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF laid siege around Trenz village of the district after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.

In the neighbouring Pulwama district, government forces cordoned off Gusoo village and launched a search operation.
Both the operations were called off as no militant was found.
